Another winner! It's a good thing Betty is an Avon lady. How else could she get into the whorehouse to find those dirty rotten thugs who thought that using kids would stop her? We keep learning more and more about Betty's background via flashbacks and we come to sympathize with her more and more.I received an ARC from the author. This review is mine and mine alone.

WOW! Each chapter gets better and better and makes you crave more. In this chapter we learn more about what Betty's father had her do as a child growing up. The ending will def make you want to pick up the next chapter immediately after!
Each episode is better than the last. This episode features a little of the background of Betty's life, why she is intent on destroying the criminal element and how she became skilled in martial arts.
More background story leading to Denny, the cousin she hates the most. But now he is using orphans on the heists and Betty can't kill the kids, but can't leave the thugs killing GIs and stealing the drugs. She needs a new plan. Somehow Kitty's Kat House plays a role in the solution. If you notice, Hayley's style of writing has changed too. Keep reading!!
The Avon Lady is back in action! Unfortunately, Donny's guys have sunk to an all new low as criminals. Their new tactics put a kink in things for Betty. She is shocked at how low these guys will go & who they will put in harm's way to get what they want. Betty's not giving up though! I would love to have her physical abilities!!!
A slightly shorter episode, number 4 has us once again seeing less action but more rounding out of Betty's past. I loved reading about her childhood (as horrid as it is) and her budding relationship with Jacob. This episode shows us the start of her 'strengths', the driving force behind them and how she learnt her badass moves.
Unfortunately for Betty, Donny's use of children may have changed her vigilante plans but only for a moment. It actually lead her to Kitty Kat's House, sending her on another tangent which may work out in Betty's favour. The plot thickens...
St. Augustine’s Home for Unwanted Boys proves to be a goldmine of unpaid labor to the local mob and mob bosses, Vince and Felix. When Betty runs across the new apprentices with the mobsters as she attempts to foil a robbery of a military truck convoy, she’s stymied. Taking out adult men is one thing but doing it when the boys could see and identify her is another. Finding another avenue to her goal leads her to Kitty’s Kat House later that night.
The author continues the Avon Calling series in this 4th episode, Kitty’s Kat House, and we not only get the reason behind Donald Pinzolo’s interest in the orphanage (besides good PR), but get another look at what makes Betty Jones tick. Her realization that the orphans were being used to further the mob’s aim of stealing the drugs meant for soldiers on the battlefield gives Betty a flashback to her own youth when she was forced to run drugs for her uncle. She watches helplessly as the convoy’s military escort is gunned down in the street.
The author continues to maintain the 1940s flavor with musical mentions, fashion, and language. Every now and then a term not normally used in this country slips in and you may realize that the author is from Australia (i.e., lorry, wireless) but you still get the “look and feel” of the times.
This episode involves Betty's husband catching her in a lie but hasn't confronted her. And Betty using her Avon business to get insight on the bad guy she's after.
